About Hungover Empire
Melanie Regnier founded the 70's-80's-90's-heavy vintage and retro clothing store Hungover Empire near the University of Winnipeg in 2008. A year and a half later she invaded the sub-cultural clothing world as Hungover Empire became Winnipeg's only alternative culture boutique and she migrated to the more edgy Osborne Village.
In this time, Melanie learned to design all of her own ads, directed MANY photoshoots, produced and directed fashion shows with themes such as Circus Sideshow, Roller Derby and The Future of Vintage.
Melanie has brought Hungover Empire to vend and sponsor such events as Comic Con, Toy and Comic Expo, Front Line Assembly at the Pyramid, Warhol's Pop Factory, Ready Mix Daft Punk Tribute, The Ball, After Dark, Elysium Social Club, Brainfest, Soca Reggae Festival, Rock on the Range, and provided additional wardrobe backstage for the musicians at Rock on the Range 2011.
Melanie also planned and organized a modeling agency called Hungover Army which is currently on the back burner due to an unwillingness to boss that many people around. Melanie designed steampunk and charm jewellery and hair accessories, as well as men's and women's decal, embroidered and screenprinted t-shirts, hoodies and military jackets, released in 2012.
Over the years, Hungover Empire has won numerous awards including Rising Star of the West End in 2009 during its first year in business, awarded by the West End Biz.
In 2009, Melanie was featured as the "Queen of Self-Promotion" in the Winnipeg Free Press for her unorthodox marketing tactics.
That same year, Melanie was asked to be a guest speaker at the University of Manitoba's Asper School of Business.
Between 2009 - 2014, Hungover Empire placed multiple times in Uptown's Best of Winnipeg Contest: Best Vintage Clothing Store, Best Women's Clothing, Best Men's Clothing and Best New Clothing Store.
In 2015, Hungover Empire triumphantly escaped retail and relocated to Montreal, where this webshop was born!
Now in 2021, based once again in Winnipeg, Hungover Empire continues to traffic the world's best quality alternative clothing brands.
Soon, we will also be returning to our roots of vintage and pre-loved fashion. Watch for the vintage section, coming soon at hungoverempire.com
